Combined events contest on Children’s Day next to PGE ARENA

American football, rugby, flying disc, floorball and basket – this is only a part of sport disciplines kids will be able to try their hand at during the great family picnic next to PGE ARENA. To celebrate the Children’s Day, Tri-City’s sport teams are preparing plenty attractions for the last Sunday of May.

All day long, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., sport activities and animations will be led by professional coaches and athletes. The sports zone will be located on the so-called “ambers”, i.e. spacious lawns next to the stadium. Namely there, Lotos Trefl Gdańsk – currently the second best team in the country – together with the City Sports and Leisure Centre Gdańsk and GPEC Group will invite those willing to play volleyball or to have fun in an inflatable tunnel.

Children will be welcome to play with the Ultimatum Frisbee team players right beside. The Trefl Sopot players will be inviting those wishing to play basketball. A game of American football will be offered by Gdańsk Vikings. The Polish Union of Rugby, on the other hand, has prepared a tag rugby workout, i.e. a non-contact version of the game – a perfect activity for those willing to improve their physical fitness. It does not include the elements of attack, using legs or forming scrums.

Sports hits and surprises
Korsarze Trójmiasto – the only team in Pomerania playing amateur lacrosse – have prepared an interesting and extremely rare proposal. The team has been practising for two years and a half together and is in the second league now. Lacrosse is a team discipline played on a grass field, where players using a special stick with a basket-shaped head have to shoot the ball into the opponent’s goal.

- “Together with our partners, we did our best to select a mix of disciplines including also less popular sports. Children do not have many opportunities to get familiar to them. Some can be watched on TV only. The PGE ARENA picnic will be a place where they will be able to verify, what they like best. Who knows, perhaps some young sport talents will be discovered,” says Tomasz Kowalski, CEO at Arena Gdańsk Operator. “Our intention is that the Children’s Day picnic inspires families to adopt a more active and sporty lifestyle.”

The children will also have an opportunity to try their hand at floorball, together with the players of Energa Olimpia Osowa – a many-times champion of Poland. Speedway fans will meet the GKŻ Wybrzeże club riders and see their motorcycles. Football will also be there. The visitors will be welcome to the Lechia Gdańsk stand. The club is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. A football workout for the youngest children will be provided by Kindergarten Gedania 1922.

Those a bit older, who love inline skating, riding inline scooters of BMXs will be welcome to the skatepark which is open free of charge next to PGE ARENA every day. To encourage others, experienced skaters will demonstrate their skills during the Sunday picnic.

The stadium is very close to the sea, and owing to Gdańsk Foundation, this distance will be even shorter on Children’s Day. The children will learn how to make boating knots and get to know the basic rules of navigation at the Maritime Education Programme stand.

Sport is good for you!
How to practice sport in a safe manner, how to eat healthily and is vaccination worth it – these and other questions will be answered by experts who will be on duty in several stands situated close to the FUN ARENA entrance and marked with special signs. They will be prepared by the Social Development Department of Gdańsk City Hall, partnered by PGE ARENA under the Gdańsk Physical Activity Programme. “PE classes with Champions” for selected Gdańsk schools, as well as meetings, workshops and conferences promoting sports and healthy eating habits are held at the stadium on a regular basis, not only on the Children’s Day occasion.
