Match Poland-Greece at 16th June

This will be the fifth friendly football match played by the Polish National team at PGE ARENA Adam Nawałka’s players will be hosting the Greeks who are going to revisit Gdańsk after three years. A great football festivity is going to be seen by the sea!

The Polish national team has already played four times here since PGE ARENA opened. The 2:2 tie match with Germany held in September 2011 was the first international football game at the newly-opened stadium. One year later, the Poles lost to Uruguay 1:3. In 2013, they defeated Denmark 3:2 and one year ago – Lithuania, 2:1. As many as 16 goals were scored in all these meetings in total, a half of them by the Polish team.

“These good statistics support the fact that PGE ARENA is a hospitable home to the Polish national team. Our players are obviously thriving by the sea, at the Gdańsk stadium. I do hope that the game with Greece will be another reason for satisfaction for them, contributing to the good atmosphere within the team, while delivering an extraordinary experience to the spectators,” says Tomasz Kowalski, CEO at Arena Gdańsk Operator. “Matches played by the National Team are important items of the PGE ARENA calendar of events. The team visits here on a regular basis. Every international match is an opportunity to arrange a great football celebration for fans arriving here from all over Poland and from abroad,” Tomasz Kowalski adds.

The statistics of all previous Poland – Greece football meetings are to the Poles’ advantage too. They won 10 out of 16 games, while 3 matches ended in a tie and 3 were lost. The 16th May will not be Greeks’ first appearance in Gdańsk. They played at PGE ARENA during UEFA EURO 2012. They lost to Germans 2:4 in the quarter-final match on June 22nd 2012. That meeting was attended by more than 5 thousand Greek fans, whose cheering and joyful celebration in the Long Market (Długi Targ) in Gdańsk still remains one of the most wonderful memories of EURO 2012 in Tri-City.
Emotional night at the most beautiful stadium

The last year’s Poland – Lithuania game attracted 32,000 spectators to Gdańsk. How is it going to be this time? Attendance may be high, the more so as PGE ARENA is considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful stadiums, offering an exceptional atmosphere. This has been reflected in numerous acts of recognition, including such international awards as “The Stadium Business Awards 2012” and a bronze medal in the “Major Outdoor Stadiums" category.
Furthermore, PGE ARENA received the “Best Sports and Leisure Facility 2012” title awarded by the Polish Olympic Committee and the Polish Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities IAKS Polska and was ranked first in the „Top 10 Football Stadiums in Poland” poll announced by infoArchitekt.pl In addition, the facility has been the first in its size class in Poland to be granted the “Healthy Stadia” certificate. PGE ARENA is a member of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) - the world's largest amusement industry trade association.

“The architectural beauty of the stadium, its highest security standards and good organization of the event should make the match of the 26th of June a great experience. We hope for a high attendance, too. The rest is resting in our National Team’s hands, or... feet rather,” - Tomasz Kowalski adds. The game starts at 8:45 p.m.
