RUGBY Press Conference at PGE ARENA
On June 10th, a press conference was held at the amber stadium, with the participation of Mr Adamowicz, Mayor of Gdańsk, Marshal Jan Kozłowski, Mr K.Liedel – President of the Polish Union of Rugby, Mr B.Jancen, President of Lechia, as well as the coach and the players of the Polish National Team, who returned from the Hungarian city Esztargom on Monday, where they won the first European Championship tournament (the second one to take place in Gdańsk).
Rugby fans are going to experience real emotions at the stadium in Traugutta street very soon. Matches of the second tournament of division A will be held there on June 21st and 22nd. Three top teams will qualify for the continental tournament of eliminations to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016, while the winner will be also promoted to Grand Prix Series, i.e. Europe’s 12 top teams. Winning the tournament in Hungary, our representatives took their first step towards victory.
Krzysztof Liedel, President of the Polish Union of Rugby, Krzysztof Folc, coach of the Polish National Rugby Team and Piotr Zeszutek, member of the Polish National Rugby Team, told about the approaching tournament. Jan Kozłowski, President of Ogniwo Sopot and Bogdan Jancen, President of Rugby Club Lechia Gdańsk were also there. The meeting was hosted by Mr Paweł Adamowicz, Mayor of the City of Gdańsk.
The participants talked about the successful visit to Esztargom and about the tournament to be held in Gdansk. They also encouraged everyone to join an exceptional event: the rugby ball passing world record attempt. The action titled “Even the Long Market is Too Short for Us” will be held on June 17th at 04:00 p.m. Rugby players, other sportspeople and all those willing to join will form a line stretching from the Green Gate to the Golden Gate in Gdańsk. Then, the ball will be passed from hand to hand, from one end of the line to the other.
The work record attempt will not be the only attraction of the events accompanying the Gdańsk rugby tournament. All teams to compete at the stadium in Traugutta street will show up in the Long Market at 07:00 p.m. on June 19th. The following countries will be represented by their National Teams besides Poland: Ukraine, Israel, Moldova, Hungary, Cyprus, Sweden, Lithuania, Denmark and Czech Republic. The presentation of teams will be an element of the official opening of the tournament.
All matches of June 20th and 21st can be attended free of charge.
